RESIDENCE TARRALBE`

Location 

Residence Tarralbe’ is positioned high amongst the rocky cliffs on the Island of Porquerolles in the French Riviera, overlooking Notre Dame Beach.

 

Pre-design condition 

The existing solid concrete structure was dark and secluded, consisting of complex sharp angles and voids.   

Although it was positioned high amongst rocky cliffs overlooking the French Riviera, it lacked height and relevance.

The expansive grounds also housed a small quest lodge which could only be accessed via the main adjoining highway, to deter unwanted trespassers roaming the main residence. Tarralbe was the result of a renovation following my client inheriting the property. My client works most of the year in Paris and wanted a retreat in the summer months to enjoy whist still conducting business. She required some very precise additions.

Client brief/ client requirements   

• Infinity swimming pool

• Palm trees to surround the home & pool for privacy and shade

• Yoga room

• Office space

• Guest area with at least one self-contained room.

• Private interview room 

• Small movie viewing area

• Large kitchen opening to the garden for outdoor dining & entertaining

• Internal fireplace, centrally located in the living area, to provide warmth to all rooms

• Master bedroom above the living area with a private balcony to view the picturesque landscape and Mediterranean Sea.

 

Concept and features

Imported red Italian marble from Milan, surrounds the pool and gardens of lush tropical palm trees. 

It also extends into the main ground floor living area, kitchen, dining room and entrance.

The exterior of the home is rendered in a Mediterranean pale pink stucco, whilst the walls of the interior living areas feature a natural concrete finish. The pink stucco walls have also been incorporated in the guest living space, office, interview room and yoga studio. The floors on the upper levels are mainly distressed concrete.

A skylight above the yoga space displays a collection of hanging ferns to offer shade and natural freshness. 

The expansive infinity swimming pool of stone and solid marble creates a main focal point of the Mediterranean Sea beyond.

The client can retreat to the master suite to relax and rejuvenate in the free-standing bathtub whist enjoying exquisite views.
