Concept and Features:
The entry to Mnemosyne creates a seamless connection and continuation of the building's external materials of glass and steel.
Each space in the building is designed to have a direct connection to the sea - the Pacific Ocean is visible from the upper floors.
The tall structure rises above the city of Sydney and at certain times of the day, the sun causes a glistening almost fish-scale effect, likened to a Silver Marlin riding the waves on its powerful tail. The overall floor plan of the ground floor mimics the profile of a Stingray, minus the whip-like tail.
The theme of the sea is incorporated throughout the interior, with the addition of water features and aquatic references to spaces with names such as the Dolphin Café, the Blue Marlin Restaurant, and The Aquarium Bar.
On entering the main reception, the walls are dressed in a textured silver metal finish and bespoke glass shards, representing Neptune’s trident, forming a passageway to the main concierge desk.
Oversized sculptures of Greek gods and goddesses are carefully positioned as a reference to ‘'Mnemosyne', the Greek goddess of memory. A giant gold and silver statue of an Angel fish provokes an immersive underwater experience.
The entire ceiling is also unique in its innovative design and application - with the flick of a switch it transforms from a reflective mirror ceiling to a masterpiece of cracked glass, creating an icy cave-like effect.
The floors throughout the public areas are lined with tiny glistening, anti-slip glass tiles of varied colours to create a distinction between each area. Each tile contains intricate solar panels to allow direct heating and cooling when required and address the importance of sustainable technologies.
The extravagant piano stage in the 'Blue Marlin' restaurant features a series of floating, almost spaceship-like dining tables of brushed gold materiality matched with ice-blue padded leather seats to blend in with the décor.
